Glomerular filtration is the first step in making urine. it is the process kidneys use to filter excess fluid and waste products out of blood into the urine collecting tubules of the kidney, so that it may be eliminated from body...

Answer :-

Glomerular filltration :-

■ Glomerular filtration takes place in the Renal corpuscles (Malpighian corpuscles) of the "Uriniferous tubule".

■ In glomerular filltration, pressure is used to filter the aqueous medium and small solute molecules.

■ Water passes through the basement of the Bowman's capsule.

■ Glomerular filtration takes place through the three barriers that constitute the filtration membrane :-

  • Fenestrated endothelium of the capillary

  • Basement membrane

  • Filtration slits

■ As the diameter of the efferent arteriole is larger than that of the afferent arteriole, there is a resistance towards the flow of blood in the Glomeruli.

■ If the diameter of the afferent renal arteriole is decreased, and that of the efferent renal arteriole is increased, then the rate of ultrafiltration will be slower.

■ The different pressures operating during the process of glomerular filltration are :-

  • Glomerular Hydrostatic Pressure (GHP) = 60 mm Hg

  • Blood Colloidal Osmotic Pressure (BCOP) = 32 mm Hg

  • Capsular Hydrostatic Pressure (CHP) = 18 mm Hg
