Answer:

Explanation:

Glyco-lysis (Glyco is Glucose, lysis is breakdown).

Glycolysis is breakdown of glucose in a 10 step pathway. The pathwya itself is termed as Glycolysis.

Glucose, which is a 6 carbon sugar is broken down into a two, 3 carbon pyruvic acid molecules.

The overall reaction of glycolysis which occurs in the cytoplasm is represented simply in the following equation:

C6H12O6 + 2 NAD+ + 2 ADP + 2 P —–> 2 pyruvic acid (CH3(C=O)COOH + 2 ATP + 2 NADH + 2 H+

So, in the end, from one molecule of glucose, we get 2 molecules of pyruvic acid, 2 ATP molecules and 1 NADH.

ATP is the energy molecule and NADH gets used up in ETC to produce more ATP.

Glycolysis is the metabolic pathway that converts glucose C₆H₁₂O₆, into pyruvate, CH₃COCOO⁻, and a hydrogen ion, H⁺. The free energy released in this process is used to form the high-energy molecules ATP and NADH. Glycolysis is a sequence of ten enzyme-catalyzed reactions.
