Golgi bodies area single membrane bound, several disc shaped structures stacked to form a complex. Its a cell organelle found only in both animal and plant cells. They cannot auto replicate. Each disc has a lumen filled with a fluid. The periphery of the discs are enlarged since substances accumulate. Its function is to package, distribute and produce complex organic molecules like glycoproteins, glycolipids and lipo proteins as well as to produce lysosomes.

Golgi Bodies are also called Golgi Appartus. It is 1st discovered by Cemillo Golgi. It consists of membrane bound structures parallel to each other. They are Vacuole, Cisterina and Vesicle. It is disc shaped sac like structure.

It is also known as post office of cell.

These are present in Eukaryotic cells.

Freely distributed subunits of Golgi Appartus known as Dictyosomes.

1) Golgi Bodies store, modify, package and dispatch the substances.

2) They help in formation of lysosomes.

3) It absorb materials from environment.
