Every object in the universe attracts every other object by a force known as gravitational force. It is given by the formula :
F= G x M x m/ R²
where G is the gravitational constant , M and m are masses of the 2 objects and R² is the square of distance between the objects.

Since masses of objects such as humans, buildings is really small as compared to the earth, we do not feel the gravitational force between any 2 random bodies. We only feel gravitational force between objects and the earth.

This gravitational force exerted by the earth is called gravity.

Gravity or gravitation is a natural phenomenon by which all things with energy are brought toward (or gravitate toward) one another, including stars,planetsgalaxies and even light and sub-atomic particles. Gravity is responsible for many of the structures in the Universe, by creating spheres of hydrogen — where hydrogen fuses under pressure to form stars — and grouping them into galaxies. On Earth, gravity gives weight to physical objects and causes the tides. Gravity has an infinite range, although its effects become increasingly weaker on farther objects.
