gravitational potential energy is the same as potential energy which changes into kinetic energy. the equation for gravitational potential energy=mgh.

hope it helps...

When an object is above the Earth's surface it has gravitational potential energy (GPE). The amount of GPE an object has depends on its mass and its height above the Earth's surface.

Gravitational potential energy (GPE)

On Earth we always have the force of gravity acting on us. When we're above the Earth’s surface we have potential (stored) energy. This is called gravitational potential energy. The amount of gravitational potential energy an object on Earth has depends on its:

1.mass
2.height

MARK AS THE BRANLIEST PLZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

NobiNavita: Normally for defining potential energy,we choose a reference. So which point do we take as reference while defining GPE?
NobiNavita: Please correct me if i am wrong.
MasterAaditya: On Earth we always have the force of gravity acting on us. When we're above the Earth’s surface we have potential (stored) energy. This is called gravitational potential energy.
MasterAaditya: this can be the referance while defining GPE
NobiNavita: Actually i meant the reference point to which we arbitrarily assign the value of potential energy as 0.
NobiNavita: so which point have you taken as reference point?
MasterAaditya: Gravitational energy is the potential energy held by an object because of its high position compared to a lower position. In other words, it is energy associated with gravity or gravitational force. For example, a pen being held above a table has a higher gravitational potential than a pen sitting on the table. Gravitational potential energy is mechanical energy minus kinetic energy. It has a scalar quantity measured in Joules
MasterAaditya: can this be the reference while defining GPE
NobiNavita: i am sorry but may i know the standard you are studying in???
sweety70: guys its enough can u please speak with eachother in inbox and stop commenting here please
