in most simple terms, green house is a phenomenon in which the heat gets trapped in the earth"s atmosphere due to the presence of some gases like- methane, CO2 etc
The greenhouse effect is a natural process that warms the Earth's surface. When the Sun's energy reaches the Earth's atmosphere, some of it is reflected back to space and the rest is absorbed and re-radiated bygreenhouse gases.

The increase in concentration of certain gases ( green house gases ) in the atmosphere leads to the formation of a thick layer that prevents heat from being radiated into the outer space, thereby increasing the temperature. The thick layer formed in the atmosphere prevents heat from being re-radiated in outer space. This is called 'Green House Effect' .
Some green house gases are carbon dioxide, methane, chloroflurocarbon and chlorofluromethanes.
