Green revolution refers to the introduction of High yielding variety (HYV) of seeds and increased use of fertilizer and irrigation methods. It took place during the 1960s especially 1965onwards. It was aimed at providing increase in production to make India self-sufficient in food grains

The extra ordinary increase in production of food as a result of using high quality seeds, technology, efforts of farmers etc is known as green revolution.

In most simple terms green revolution means constant increase in food. For example after the Green Revolution the production of wheat is almost doubled.
