Green Revolution is the term given to the introduction of high-yielding varieties of seeds and the increased use of fertilizers and irrigation which provided the increase in production needed to make India self-sufficient in food grains, thus improving agriculture in India

Green revolution implies increase in the production of foodgrains by application of scientific techniques, supply of input like good quality seeds and provisions of irrigation. Dr M. S. Swaminathan described as 'The Father Of Green Revolution implemented this strategy from 1965. Thereby, India achieved self-sufficiency in the requirement of food grains.
