What is Green Revolution ? What are its drawbacks?

Disadvantages of Green revolution: The usage of a high quantity of pesticides and insecticides incorporated toxicity in the plants. In order to protect crops from different types of disease caused by pest as well as the damages caused by insects, the farmers used pesticides and insecticides at a high amount.

Hello !

 Green revolution refers to the introduction of High yielding variety (HYV) of seeds and increased use of fertilizer and irrigation methods. It took place during the 1960s especially 1965 onwards. It was aimed at providing increase in production to make India self-sufficient in food grains.

Some of the demerits or problems of Green Revolution :

  • Inter-Crop Imbalances
  • Regional Disparities
  • Increase in Inter-Personal Inequalities
  • Unemployment
