Heya,

Grignard reagent is organometallic compound. Example is CH3MgBr, PhMgBr.

It is a good Base and hence in acidic medium gives reaction like this :-

H2S + CH3MgBr = CH4

It has nucleophillic properties too but because of its basic properties, we use ether. Some of its uses are :-

  1. Can convert CO2 into acids.
  2. Can convert carbonyl compounds into alcohols.

Answer:

Grignard reagents are formed by the reaction of magnesium metal with alkyl or alkenyl halides. They're extremely good nucleophiles, reacting with electrophiles such as carbonyl compounds (aldehydes, ketones, esters, carbon dioxide, etc) and epoxides.

Grignard reagent, any of numerous organic derivatives of magnesium (Mg) commonly represented by the general formula RMgX (in which R is a hydrocarbon radical: CH³, C2H⁵, C6H5, etc.; and X is a halogen atom, usually chlorine, bromine, or iodine).
