Haploid have single set of unpaired chromosomes and diploid contain two complete sets of chromosomes, one from each parent.

In somatic cells the number of chromosomes are in pair.This number of chromosomes is called Diploid.
During gametogenesis(formation of gametes)-- due to meiotic division, the number of chromosomes are halved. These halved number of chromosomes are called Haploid. Hope it helps.
