The layer of the atmosphere has a band of ozone gas. the ozone layer protects the earth from the uv rays of the sun. the presence of this layer is essential to preserve life on earth. if exposed to uv days, humans and animals can suffer cataract, sunburn, hair loss, skin cancer and birth deformities. plant growth may also be affected.
An ozone hole has been detected near the poles. the release of large amounts of CFCs and BFCs by industries and factories have been responsible for the formation of holes in the ozone layer.
