Hard bast is the non functional portion of xylem.
It is inside of the part.
Xylem doesnt support any nutrients or water, however it gives good support to the entire plant.
In addition to this, it can be considered as a heart wood.
They are stiff and sturdy and are also known to support certain group of cells of a plant.
