'Hauz’ means “water tank” (orlake) and ‘Khas’ means “royal”, giving itthe meaning — the “Royal tank”. The large water tank or reservoir was first built by Allauddin Khilji(r. 1296–1316)

Hauz Khas is a large water tank which was built by Alauddin Khilji during 13th century in Delhi Sultanate region. This Hauz Khas was used to supply water in fort and city of Siri. In Hauz Khas complex many tombs, madrasa and Mosque were built around water tank.

In this complex Firoz Shah’s tomb was built in L- shaped building that overlooks this water tank. This water tank was spread over 123.6 acres with width of 700 meter.
