The poem ‘The Idiot Box’ is about a young boy who watches too much television. Throughout the poem, the boy is referred to as ‘he’. The poet does not tell us his name or age. However, we know that he is a young boy because the poet talks about the child living with his ‘daddy and mummy’, whom he bullied into buying an LED. Also, though it is his age to look through comic books or picture books, he doesn’t do any of that. Instead the child is addicted to the TV.

The child has no physical activity and does not leave his room, nor does he let anyone come into his room. He is leading a very lonely life, with only his screen for company. As a result, his eyesight has suffered and he needs to wear thick glasses. He is not a normal child and so has mood swings too.

By the end of the poem, the reader realizes that though the TV is called the ‘idiot box’, it is indeed the child who is the ‘idiot’ in the poem. He is missing out on all the fun of real life and has foolishly locked himself up in his room. Sadly, there are many children like him, who are stuck to the TV for long hours.

He refers to a boy in the poem idiot box.he created channels for television and he was not a fool.

He says he created these channels so that people can watch, they can stare and he also says to take care of the distance between you and the television so that people wont get addicted to it and maintain their schedule for the day.
