What is hemlock tree?Why doesn't the poet write about a more beautiful tree such as a maple,or an oak ,spine?

A hemlock tree is a small plant with white flowers which is poisonous.The poet did not choose any of the beautiful tree existing in this world but he chose hemlock tree because he wants to express his sadness.
