Hess' law of constant heat summation, also know as Hess' law, is a relationship in physical chemistry named after germain Hess, a Switzerland-born russian chemist and physician who published it in 1840

The enthalpy change ( or heat evolved or absorbed ) in a particular reaction is the same whether the reaction takes place in one step or in a number of steps.

In other words, According to Hess law, the change in enthalpy remains constant whether the process is carried out in one step or in more than one step.
