Reasons why it is under great threat are as follows :-
• A chemical compound called ' taxol ' is extracted from the bark, needles, twigs and roots of this tree which is used for the treatment of cancer.
• Overexploitation of this tree also cause a threat to it.
• In the last one decade, thousands of yew trees are dried up in various parts of Himachal Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh.
