A N S W E R :

\underline{\mathcal{\red{HOMOLOGOUS\:\:SERIES\::}}}

When the general formula and functional groups are same for the organic compound & these can be settle with a molecular weight difference of 14, then a series is formed called homologous series. Each compound of the homologous series is known as homologue of each other.

\underline{\mathcal{\red{HYDROCARBON\:\:SERIES\::}}}

General formula for homologous series of saturated hydrocarbons is \bf{C_nH_{2n+2}} .

Example :

\bullet\tt{n = 1 , CH_4 \:(methane)}

\bullet\tt{n = 2 , C_2H_6 \:(ethane)}

\bullet\tt{n = 3 , C_3H_8\:(propane)}

\bullet\tt{n = 4 , C_4H_{10}\:(butane)}

\bullet\tt{n = 5 , C_5H_{12}\:(pentane)}

Methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane, etc., are called homologue of each other.

General formula for homologous series of unsaturated hydrocarbons, alkene is \bf{C_nH_{2n}} .

Example :

\bullet\tt{C_2H_4 \:\:  =(ethene) }

C3H6 = (propene) .
