\star In simple words :

Homology is the study of similarities between organisms to determine common ancestors based on genes , physiology or development. The structure or genes that fall under homology are referred to be as being Homologous.

Theory :

\because A theory in botany : the sporophyte and gametophyte in plants are essential alike , the spirit having developed by direct modification of the gametophyte - compare antithetic theory

Importance :

Homologous character shares many biological properties in the different organism in which it occurs ,and there is a casual basis for the sharing of properties ( common ancestry and shared developmental machanisms ) ...Thus , Homologous are important morphological developmental , taxonomic, and evolutionary units.
