The series of compound in which later compound differed by ch2 group from the former compound.
for ex-Ethane (c2H6) differed by ch2 group from methane(ch4).
in simpler words if u add ch2 to methane u will get ethane .
The two characteristics are :-
1-- All the members of the homeowners series can be represented by the same general formula for example all the members of the Alkane series can be represented by the general formula of CnH2n+2 .
2-- the difference in the molecular mass of any two adjacent homologous is 14 u. for example the molecular mass of Methane it 16 U and the next higher homologous Ethane is 30u so the difference in the molecular mass of ethane and methane is 30-16 is = 14u.

hiiii ..
A group of organic compounds containing a particular functional group is termed a homologous series...
* the character of homologous series..
* all numbers of homologous series can be described by a common general formula for example all alkalis can be described by general formula ( CñH2n+n).....
* physical properties in a Homologous series show a regular variation with an increase in molecular mass..
* is number of homologous series differ from its higher and lower neighbouring mama by a common difference of Ch2..
hopefully u understand......
plz click the brainlest ...... thanks
