according to hooks law stress is directly proportional to strain and if if the proportionality constant is neglected the constant which is added in the value is young modulus

i.e.

Stress \alpha Strain.

or

Stress = E. Strain

E = \frac{Stress}{Strain}

Here; E is Modulus of Elasticity..
