Cloning in biology is the process of producing similar populations of genetically identical individuals that occur in nature when organisms such as bacteria , insects or plants reproduce asexually .

➼ Any two animals which contain exactly the same genes are called 'genetically identical' .

➼ An animal which is genetically identical to its parent is called a clone .

➼ The cloning of an animal is done by the transfer of 'nucleus' of a cell.

Dolly was a female sheep and the first mammal to be cloned from an adult somatic cell , using the process of nuclear transfer .

➼ She was cloned by Lan Wilmut , Keith Campbell and colleagues .

Yes , cloning is dangerous because :-

  • It has low success rate
  • Short life-span
  • suffers from genetic diseases
