the human eye is of the most valuable sense organs that enables us to see the whole world around us.

  1. Sclera : is a tough outercoat that protects the entire eyeball.
  2. Choroid : it is a thick white transparent wall.. a vascular layer of the eye which contains blood vessels that nourish the inner parts of the eye. it protects the eye from foreign particles entering into it.
  3. Cornea : is the front portion of the eye. convex in shapeand bulges outside. light enters the eye through cornea..
  4. Iris : is a dark muscular diaphragm located just behind the cornea...it regulates the amount of light entering the eye by adjusting the size of pupil.
  5. Pupil : is a hole i the middle of the iris. its size decreases or increases depending upon the density of light entering the eye....
  6. Eye lens : is made up of a transparent jelly like substance which is made up of proteins. it is held in position by ciliary muscles and suspensory ligaments
  7. Ciliary muscles and suspensory ligaments : adjust the focal length of the eye so that we can see distant and nearby objects clearly.
  8. Aqueous humor : is a viscous liquid filled in the area bw the cornea and eyelens. it prevents the eye from collapsing due to changes in the atmospheric pressure...
  9. Retina : is a delicated membrane havig a large no. of light sensitive cells they get activated upon illumination and generate electric signals..they are of two types : (i) Rods and (ii) Cones
  10. Rods : cells that respond to intensity of light
  11. Cones : cells that respond to colour of objects..
  12. Macula : is a tiny area which is responsible for clear and sharp vision..there's a small depression inside the macula that is called FOVEA CENTRALIS, here max no of cones are present
  13. Vitreous Humor : its a jelly like substance filled in the space bw retina and eye lens....it helps in maintaining the shape of the eye...it is a small region in retina where the optic nerve enters the eye.....it is sensitive to light ...hence called the BLIND SPOT
