Humus is the organic material in soil. Humus is not a form of soil, rather it is the broken down composted remains of leaves, grass, and other organic matter contained within the soil.

importance

1.Ensures soil's good structural stability, water and air retention and circulation.

2.Promotes clay protection against water drainage which decreases erosion.

it is the most fertile layer of soil it may also be called as silt
it contains organic matter such as the remains of dead plants in some places it is rich in nitrogen due to the nitrogen modules present in the nitrogen fixing plants
uses:
they are extremly useful for the growth of plants
if earthworms are allowed to crawl through them these soil becomes filled with air raising the fertility factor
