Hybridisation (or hybridization) is a process of mathematically combining two or more atomic orbitals from the same atom to form an entirely new orbital different from its components and hence being called as a hybrid orbital.

Hybridisation is a concept of mixing atomic orbitals into new hybrid orbitals which are generally of lower energy and suitable for the pairing of electrons to form chemical bonds in valence bond theory. 

Hybridization helps to predict the shape and geometry of molecule and way bonding happens in that.
