hybridisation is a technique of plant breeding in which the two plants having the desired characteristics are made to cross and develop seeds. During this process, one plant is considered as male. The pollen grains of this plant are collected for pollination. The other plant is considered as female. The stigma of female plant is dusted with the pollen grains of male plants. After pollination the fusion of desired male and female gametes result in the formation of a hybrid embryo having the characteristics of both plants. The seed of this plant are collected and grown in the fields.
There are several types of hybridisations. Some are listed below:
1. intravarietal hybridisation (between two plants belonging to same variety.)
2. intervarietal hybridisation (between the two plants belonging to same variety.)
3. interspecific hybridisation (between the different species of the same genus.)
4. intergeneric hybridisation (between two different genera.)
