Hybridization is the crossing of dissimilar individuals to produce best of both organisms. One advantage of hybridization is that it can combine disease resistance of one organism with the production capacity of another.

In chemistry, it is the formation of bonding orbitals from electrons in atomic orbitals. In biology it means the formation of a hybrid offspring, perhaps a different color wing on a butterfly, which gives it a better chance of survival.
