Hydration enthalpy is the amount of energy released when one mole of gaseous ions combine with water to form hydrated ions. Lithium which is an alkali metal has high negative value of E-. It indicates high reducing power. Lithium being small in size has high ionization enthalpy.

Smaller the cation, greater is the degree of hydration. Alkali metals easily lose 1 electron and therefore have high values of "oxidising potential" which means high tendency to get oxidised and hence, powerful reducing nature in aqueous medium.
