it is the energy obtained from the flowing water .it uses a turbine .when water falls on the blades of the turbine, the blades starts moving.they generate mechanical energy,this is converted into electric energy.and this is how we get hydro electricity

What Causes Water to Flow ?

When sun rays fall on water bodies, water evaporates and water vapour is formed. This water Vapour rises in the atmosphere from a height of 1 Km to 15 km forming clouds .

Wind Blows these clouds from one region to another ultimately, the water Vapour converts into rain and snow and fall back on earth.

The snow on the mountain melt and water from rainfall flows down in rivers .

Thus we may Conclude that "energy possessed by flowing water is an indirect source of solar energy".
