Hydroelectricity which is also known as Hydropower is the conversion of energy (power) that is derived from the moving water into electricity.
Explanation:
- It is a cheap, conventional, commercial and inexhaustible source of energy. It is a renewable from of energy.
- Hydropower is generated by hydropower plants which are located on/near the water source.
- The power plants capture the energy (kinetic energy) from falling water which is in turn converted into mechanical energy by the turbines.
- The generator converts mechanical energy into electrical energy.
- Electricity produced from hydropower plants doesn’t cause any environmental pollution.
