Hydroelectricity is electricity made by generators that are pushed by movement of water. It is usually made with dams that block a river to make a reservoir or collect water that is pumped there. When the water is released, the pressure behind the dam forces the water down pipes that lead to a turbine.

Hydroelectricity refers to the generation of electrical power by the use of hydropower. Hydropower here mainly is the gravitational force of falling water.

⏩at present of the total electric power generated in our country almost 1/4 is contributed by hydroelectricity.

⏩ advantages of generating hydroelectricity

  • the generation of electricity from flowing water does not produce any environmental pollution.
  • flowing water is renewable source of energy.

⏩ disadvantages

  • large area of ecosystem destroyed.
  • due to construction of dam on the river , the fishes in the downstream area don't get sufficient nutrients.
