Unsaturated hydrocarbons add hydrogen to themselves in the presence of a strong catalyst like nickel/palladium to form saturated hydrocarbon
This is known as addition reaction or hydrogenation.

For example,
C2H4 + [H2]------Ni------> C2H6.

Usually unsaturated vegetable oils are hydrogenated to make them saturated.
