Hydrogenation means the addition of hydrogen to unsaturated hydrocarbon to convert it into a saturated hydrocarbon.

Equation-

C2H4 + H2 ——> C2H6 (In presence of Ni,Pd)

It is used in the production of ghee from vegetable oil.

Adding up of Hydrogen atoms in an unsaturated hydrocarbon to produce a saturated hydrocarbon is called Hydrogenation.
It is used in making vanaspati ghee from oils , eg--Dalda ghee.
