Answer: Hyperopia is a common vision condition in adults.

People with hyperopia must squint to see nearby objects. Reading, writing, computer work or drawing for long periods of time may cause eye strain and headache.

What causes hyperopia / hypermetropia?

In an eye with hyperopia, light rays entering the eye focus behind the retina, rather than directly on it.  Typically, this is because the eyeball of a farsighted person is shorter than normal.  Many children are born farsighted and "outgrow" it as the eyeball lengthens with normal growth.  Sometimes people confuse hyperopia with presbyopia, which also causes near vision problems among people after age 40 for different reasons.
