Hypotonic- The amount of Solvent is greater than amount of Solute
Hypertonic- The amount of solvent is lesser than amount of solute.
Thus movement of solvent takes place from Hypotonic to Hypertonic.

if the medium surrounding the cell has a higher water concentration than the cell, meaning that the outside solution is very dilute , the cell will gain water by osmosis.such solution is called hypotonic solution
if the medium has a lowe rconcentration of water than the cell, the cell will lose water such solution is called hypertonic solution
