Those species which have the central atom with less than eight electron in the outermost shell or valence shell are considered as hypovalent species. pls brainiest

Hypovalent compounds are those in which ‘the central atom’ has less than ‘eight valence electrons’.

Chlorine Trifluoride \bold{\left(\mathrm{ClF}_{3}\right)} and Sulphur Hexafluoride \bold{\left(\mathrm{SF}_{6}\right)} are examples of hypovalent compound. These are mostly powdery or granular in texture. They are not as highly ionic as hypervalent compounds.

Due to the presence of less than ‘eight electrons’ in the valence shell, hypovalent compounds tend to have a net negative charge due to affinity towards electrons.
