These are special type of seeds are made by scientist to increase yield per area of a land. thus, helping to grow high amount of yield in less span of time and earning more money.The HYV seed can produce ten time more than the food produced in the same land.
Disadvantages:
- HYV crops need a lot of fertilisers and pesticides to grow which increases costs and pollution
- HYV crops require a more reliable source of water – irrigation increases costs.
- The poorest farmers have been unable to buy HYV seeds so they are of no benefit to them
Advantages:
- HYV crops are shorter so more able to withstand high winds and heavy rain
- Starvation and famine have been reduced
- More food is grown on an area of land which increases farmers' profits
Limitation:
- This type of farming is not suitable in areas which does not have proper irrigation facility
- Requires large amount of investment.
Merits:
