IIFT Exam Pattern
The IIFT written test is historically conducted in the month of November of the preceding year of the commencement of the program. It is a multiple choice objective type test of two hours and the test areas over the last few years have been Quantitative Ability, Data Interpretation, Reading Comprehension, Verbal Ability, Logical Reasoning and General Awareness. The test has been experimenting with the number of sections & the number of questions, as is reflected in the table below, which gives the pattern of the test for the last few years:-

In fact, it is one of the rare management entrance exams that have differential marking for different sections, as well as for different questions of the same section. In 2010 and 2014, differential marks were allotted even between the two sub-sections of the Verbal Ability section.
IIFT 2016 featured 123 questions structured into four sections. The total number of questions in 2016 varied as compared to IIFT 2015. Section 1 was Quantitative Ability (20 Questions, 1 mark each); Section 2 was in two parts, one on Data Interpretation (22 Questions, 0.75 marks each) and the other on Analytical and Logical Reasoning (20 Questions, 1 Mark each); Section 3 was in two parts, one on Reading Comprehension (16 Questions, 1 mark each), the other on Verbal Ability (20 Questions, 0.75 marks each); Section 4 was on General Awareness with 25 Questions, 0.5 mark per Question. The expected overall score at which the text takers could expect a call from IIFT was around 41-44.
IIFT 2015 featured 124 questions structured into four sections- Section 1 was Quantitative Ability(22 Questions, 1 mark each); Section 2 was in two parts, one on Data Interpretation (18 Questions, 1 mark each) and the other on Analytical and Logical Reasoning (20 Questions, 0.75 mark each); Section 3 was in two parts, one on Reading Comprehension (16 Questions, 1 mark each), the other on Verbal Ability (20 Questions, 0.75 marks each);Section 4 was on General Awareness with 28 Questions, 0.5 mark per each. The cut off for short listing students for GD-PI round was 48.5 in 2015
