   Newspapers are part of media.   They give employment to many people like workers, cartoonists, reporters, writers, poets, photographers, and sports journalists.  They are part of the machinery in the country to see that justice is done.  They are the unappointed judges at all levels in the country.  In a democracy media has an independent role in the political scene.

    They inform people of what is happening in the world.  They also bring awareness to people on various contemporary issues.  Often newspapers are used for communication to people from the government or other sources, on important matters.

    Newspapers are used for advertising products and services of companies.  They are used for wishing bon voyages and obituaries too.  Also, notices from government, tender invitations, annual balance sheets of organizations and so on are printed.  Editor communicates to the public his/her expert and educated analysis of the most importance issues of national or local importance.
   
    Apart from these, young persons can do develop GK and learn some English language too as indirect benefits.  Finally, often newspapers are used for time pass during waiting periods at many offices.  In India all local street sellers use old newspapers as covers for parcels or packing materal or material used in serving fast foods.
