Impulse is a Physical Quantity in Physics.

Generally it means the the "change in Linear Momentum"

Impulse= Average force * Time

For ex..

A cricketer, while catching the ball. leaps his hand backward to catch it.. this is because of Impulse

as the ball was initially at rest and then it will be in motion (When hit by Bat) and after that finally in rest when catched.

suppose it was hitted by a force of 10 N and it takes 2 sec. to be catched by fielder..

then ..

impulse=10*2= 20..

here the impulse is constant.

and the fielders leaps his hand backwards to increase the time and decrease the impact of force..

that.

impulse=2*10=20 here force is decreased to 2 and time is increased to 10..

There are many examples.. like .

the jumping on a cushion and on a cemented floor..

so, impulse is all about the force ( it impact) and time period..

hope it helps you..

thanks.
