What is in a Vihara?

The Buddha established many monasteries. These monasteries were called viharas. Buddhist monks lived in these monasteries. These monasteries were also the centers of education.As time passed, many supporters of the monks felt need for more permanent members. These were known as Viharas. These Viharas were made of wood and then brick. Some were situated even in caves that were dug out in hills in western India.
