indigo was a natural dye which which was prescribed by dyers or professional dyers to dye a cloth. it had great demand in Europe because Indigo was in great demand in European countries because it produce a rich blue colour which was used by the european cloth manufacturers.And european climate is not favourable for indigo cultivation.

It ruined the soil fertility.
they were forced to grow indigo in the most fertile part of their land where they preferred to grow rice.
