⚫An inductor is an electric device.
⚫A simple inductor is a conductor shaped as a coil.
⚫Just like capacitor in DC circuit, it is used as an energy storing device in an AC circuit.
⚫ When current (AC) passes through the inductor, a magnetic field is created.
⚫Now, as the current is changing its direction, a change in magnetic flux through the coil takes place.
⚫ As per Lenz’s law a current is induced, which opposes the current which created it, because of which it can reshape or delay the alternating current through the coil.
⚫Ability of inductors to store magnetic energy is known as “Inductance” and is measured in henries (H).
⚫ According to the type of the core used, inductors are classified as air core, iron core and ferrite core.
⚫ Examples of inductors are electric choke, transformer (mutually coupled inductors), winding of motors etc.
