Inertia of rest states that a body will continue to stay in the same place with no motion unless an external force is applied. Some common examples we can see is that when we are standing on the bus and the bus starts moving we tend to move backwards and this is due to the body was in the inertia of rest.

Answer:

Inertia of Rest can be defined as the inability of an object or body to change its state of rest by itself.

Example : when a car is suddenly started, the passengers in it fall backward. Ever wondered why that happens? Well, the lower part, which is in contact with the car, comes in motion, whereas the upper part remains in rest due to inertia of rest.
