What is inertia? What gives the measure of inertia
Answers
Answer:
There are two numerical measures of the inertia of a body: its mass, which governs its resistance to the action of a force, and its moment of inertia about a specified axis, which measures its resistance to the action of a torque about the same axis. See Newton's laws of motion.
Inertia
✔The tendency of an object to resist the change of its state of motion or rest is known as inertia.
✔ Newton's first law of motion- An object continues to be in a state of rest or in uniform motion along a straight line until or unless an external unbalanced force acts upon it is taken as the definition of inertia.
✔ There are 3 types of inertia - inertia of rest, inertia of motion and inertia of direction.
Measure of inertia
✔ Inertia directly depends on mass of an object, therefore mass measures inertia.
✔ As mass increases, the inertia of an object increases and as the mass decreases, the inertia of the an object decreases.
