PHYSICS

a property of matter by which it continues in its existing state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line, unless that state is changed by an external force.

"the power required to overcome friction and the inertia of the moving parts"

So before jumping into the dimensional formula of force. We should know that how concept of force and its formula came into play.

So the concept of force came from the Newton’s 2nd law of motion which states that acceleration of an object is dependent directly on 2 variables i.e force acting upon the object, and inversely proportional upon the mass of the object. Therefore we can conclude a formula from this law

a=F/m, if we interchange this formula a bit we get F=m.a

Where F=net force

m=mass of the object

a=acceleration

Now, dimensional formula are used to simplify the units into MLT where M=mass

L=length

T=time

If we breakdown the formula of force a=metre/seconds^2

And mass=kg, so mass has one unit,length has one unit and time has 2 units of negative therefore the formula becomes

MLT^-2

Hope it will help you :)

Explanation:

inertia is that property of a body due to which it resist a change in its state of rest or of uniform motion

greeted the inertia of a body greater will be the force required to bring a change in its state of rest or of uniform motion

infact mass is a measure of the inertia of a body

if a body has more mass it has more inertia

that is heavier object have more inertia than lighter object
