Diseases which are caused by organisms like bacteria and viruses are called as infectious diseases.

Infectious diseases are also known as communicable or transmissible diseases.

They can be prevented by medicines or vaccines.

They can be passes from a person to another person.

They are caused by pathogens (disease causing agents), fungi, viruses and bacteria.

Examples: Common cold, Tuberculosis (TB) and influenza.

Some diseases caused by different pathogens:

1. Typhoid - Bacteria.

2. Elephantiasis - Worms.

3. Cholera - Bacteria.

4. Common cold - Viruses.

5. AIDS - Viruses.

Types of infectious diseases:

Viral Infections :- These are caused by viruses.

Bacterial Infections :- These are caused by bacteria.

Fungal Infections :- These are caused by fungus.

Prion diseases :- These are caused by proteins.

Infectious diseases can rapidly spread from one person to another by various means such as by physical contact, water, air , food, and insects.
