Insolation is the amount of solar radiation that is received by a planet. Some of this energy is absorbed or reflected by the atmosphere, if there is one, and some reaches the surface.

Cold air is denser and heavy. That is why it sinks down. When hot air rises, cold air from surrounding area rushes there to fill in the gap. That is how air circulation takes place.

Answer:

Insolation is the amount of solar radiation received on a given surface in a given time period. In particular, daily insolation Q (MJ m− 2 day− 1) is the solar radiation incident on a horizontal surface per square metre integrated over a day. Insolation varies seasonally and with daily variation in cloud cover.

Cold air is denser and heavy. That is why it sinks down.
