In agriculture, leaching is the loss of water-soluble plant nutrients from the soil caused by rain and irrigation. Leaching is a usual environment concern that leads to groundwater contamination.

As water from rain, flooding, or other sources leaks into the ground, it can melt chemicals and carry them into the underground water supply.

When leaching reaches its optimal process and starts contamination underground water storage it is called intense leaching.
